Famous Artist to teach in Bemus Point

Carol Cypher, author of Felted Flower Jewelry, Mastering Beadwork and How We Felt, is an internationally known teacher. This winter she has travelled to Japan, Germany and London among other places. Carol is a favorite featured teacher at the Tucson Bead Fest as well as the Bead and Button show in Milwaukee, two of the nation’s biggest venues for jewelry making enthusiasts.  She has developed an intriguing technique for making sculptured jewelry using no-knit felting and beaded embellishments. On May 1st and 2nd, Carol will be offering a workshop for students at Imagine! in Bemus Point.

“I can’t believe we got her to come for classes. She is in great demand” said Lyn Harris, a wonderful artist in her own right. “Lyn has attended many fiber art workshops around the country and has heard Carol lecture in the past” “Beginners and advanced students may not get this kind of opportunity soon again. The workshops are two days long and each student will learn her fascinating and fun techniques” for more information class Imagine! At 386 2244. Seating is very limited.

Beading As Contemplative Prayer

This past summer Kathy Shomo, who is from Pittsburg, designed a class called “Beading as Contemplative Prayer” Kathy pointed out that all major religions use some form of beads for prayer. She researched and compiled interesting information that she gave to students and invited them to share their ideas and thoughts about why they were taking the class. Below are two samples made by students .

Barb Winkley’s contemporary rosary made with floral beads and a lampwork heart instead of a traditional cross

Dorathy Gallo’s contemporary rosary is made with a lampwork heart bead, cloisonne  and crystal.

Earring Madness

Earring Class

This class is designed to teach the student basic earring construction. Anne tells us that she held off from making jewelry for a long time because she didn’t understand the various “findings” used for making jewelry and she wants to help those who want to learn so that they don’t go through what she went through. Students will learn the use of head pins, eye pins, jump rings, ear wires, beads, and crystals to create that special pair of earrings, along with basic skills with tools – round nose and flat nose pliers, wrapping headpins to create a loop for jump rings, and various types of earring styles. This class will give the student an introduction to findings as you make your earrings. These basic skills will help you to gain the confidence to try other pieces of jewelry, such as bracelets and necklaces. There will be several types of earring kits – styles – available for the student to choose, along with handouts that will explain what “findings” are, as well as the tools you can use in making earrings. This class is designed to give you the “start” and confidence you need to begin making your own personal style of jewelry. If you want to take this class, but can’t come on the date it is scheduled, let Imagine know and Anne will schedule a class at a convenient time for you.

Sterling Silver Tube Bracelet

Learn how to create a tube bracelet Here is a classic from a few seasons ago. It is still a beauty. Anne might bring it back as a class in the future. Below is the description.

Whether you are new to the world of beading or an experienced beader who would like to take a relaxing and fun class, Anne Jackson’s bracelet class may be just what you need to keep that summer sparkle going all year long.

This is a bracelet made with the highest quality sterling silver or gold-filled materials, along with Swarovski crystals. The picture of the bracelet just can’t do it justice – elegant and beautiful only begin to describe it. There will be 4 or 5 different crystal colors to choose from, as well as a choice of sterling silver or gold-filled for the rest of the bracelet. Whether you have never made a piece of jewelry before or have experience with making jewelry, this is a class that you are guaranteed to enjoy and walk away from wanting to make more.

The class will teach you some of the basics for making jewelry, as well as some of the ‘terminology’ of jewelry making. What in the world is a “wire guard”??? What is a “crimp cover”? Is it a ‘blanket’? You will know when you complete this class. The class fee is $20 and the kit fee is $40. All materials are included in the kit. If you do not have jewelry making tools, we will have them available for you to use at the class. There will be refreshments served during the class, at no cost to students. Just bring your eye glasses – if needed – and be prepared to have a relaxing and fun evening.
